About Granada |
The city of Granada is in the Andalucia region of southern Spain.
|
|
Being close to the border between Europe and Africa, Granada has experienced diverse cultural influences over the centuries. This is reflected in tourist attractions that include the Alhambra (an Arab medieval citadel), the Generalife (place of recreation for the Granadan Muslim kings), the Cathedral, the Realejo (former Jewish quarter), Albayzin (old Moorish quarter), and Sacromonte (old neighbourhood of the Gypsies). These places are all indicated on the Google_Map on this website.
We hope that Granada's cultural diversity and close proximity to North Africa will help to attract more conference participants from Africa and the Middle East.

About the Conference |
|
|
The local host and co-organiser for the conference is the Andalusian Public Health System Biobank (Biobanco del Sistema Sanitario Público de Andalucía).
The conference theme is: "Biobanks - Advancing Science and Serving Society in the 21st Century". The conference programme will build on the success of our two recent conferences in Tarragona (Oct, 2011) and Marseille (Nov, 2011). The conference will feature invited speakers, contributed papers, poster presentations, a poster discussion session, corporate workshops and working group meetings. Vendors from around the world will demonstrate their latest products and services for biobanks at their exhibitor booths.

Predicted Attendance: 500+
|
We estimate that this joint congress will attract 500+ attendees. This estimate is based on the attendance of two previous conferences:
(1) The ESBB conference in Marseille last November which attracted about 400 attendees.
(2) The Spanish National Biobank Network conference in Tarragona last October, which attracted about 250 attendees.
This year, each conference might be expected to attract additional attendees, so the estimate of 500+ for the joint congress seems quite safe and conservative. |
